Breathless

I drift in to view of the sunset,
The rim of the earth now ablaze,
With colours that rise from the landscape,
And converge in a deep solar haze.

The reds of the dust and the deserts,
The golds of the hills and the sand,
Reflections of amber-dyed coastlines,
Where the ocean gives way to the land.

I float through the tangerine embers,
Fill my head with her flushed crimson soul,
Bend my knees to her fiery beauty,
And devour her magnificent whole.

As quickly, the scene is transfigured,
The layers of colour confused.
The sun sheds its blistering aura,
While earth's fire is swiftly diffused.

The ribbons of last daylight fading,
The tongues of bright passion subside,
Soft pinks and shale greys take their passage,
Till in shadow the last tints collide.

The peace of the curving horizon,
Now settled in shade for the night,
I relive her unique blazing beauty,
And am breathless again in her sight.
