A young boy lays down his head to sleep;
Photon dreams turn sinuously in his mind's eye
A twisting and dusty river flowing on high
In the night overhead, stars, companions to keep
As he turns; a new dream
Of firelight, and starlight, and frogs in the reeds
The promise of the cool night nurtures stellar seeds
Is he the dreamer or the dream?
See: the joy, peace, and grandeur of the bejeweled sky
His old man has been awaiting this:
Black promise of night, of dreams and of bliss
'Six Billion Suns' the song, the cry
Suddenly, he sees a faint light,
A glowing, silk curtain in the northern sky
He wakes his son, and shows him why
Ions and minds alike excite on this midsummer's night
See its cold glow, subtle green and red
A little lost sleep, standing out in the cold
So fleeting a sight for this precious child's soul
Time for one last look, then back to bed
