I was a rambunctious kid, into the creeks to catch turtles, snakes and lizards,
I was bored by school except for playing with other kids. I played football mostly, but also enjoyed
swimming, soccer and baseball. My past time was running through the streets, catching animals and
exploring the woods, skateboarding, or any other activities around a house loaded with kids
With no fences, our home was always open to whomever happen to pass by; we had great gym sets in
the yard, and a big halve pipe in the driveway for the avid skateboarders, and everyone was welcome
Life as an astronaut's kid was somewhat usual in the neighborhood and school, the El Lago subdivision
was home to many Astronauts. It was during the times in Florida at Cape Canaveral when the following
of the Space Program was very loved and supported. It seemed like a big difference. In our neighborhood,
you could go to Neil Armstrong's home and he would probably answer the door. That is how things were
back in the late 60's and early 70's
After my parents divorce, it would seem I had too much freedom and often got into
trouble. At age 12, I was sneaking the VW Bug out for drives at night. I was arrested for this and
other various reasons for which I was wrong, but I have no regrets. Joining athletics in High School
was good for Me
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988, where I had followed my
older brother and sister after two years at Lamar University in Beaumont. Austin was so much fun, I
flunked my first semester, but rebounded to graduate in both Information Systems and Finance
I had not traveled outside of the USA except for border towns during college spring break, usually
South Padre Island and Matamoris, Mexico. So, after graduation, traveling was very important. Between
11 years with the Continuum Company (TCC) and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), I completed
assignments in Europe, Canada and Japan. Probably more important, were friends made. I resigned
from CSC in July of 1999 with tremendous appreciation for a great company
The most exciting moments in my life have been with my Dad and the space program. As a family, we saw
the Apollo - Saturn V launch in 1972 and starting 1983, my high school senior year, watched Dad rocket
into space on the space shuttle six different times! I realize Now how elusive the Shuttle Launch is,
so feel blessed to have experienced every Launch
